Shere Hell made up for by amazing new toy.

Not sure where the week has gone but certainly no real-time blog updating been happening.

Did some swapping around so Tuesday was a brick session. So nice to be able to do it on the road rather than in the garage.

Then Wednesday was monster session day. Got up early and ran with efforts for an hour, then worked, then went for a massage which was pure agony. This time even my pecs were tight. Tom and I came to the conclusion that I'm practically falling apart. Felt really tired after the massage but was determined to get down to Kingfisher to swim. Knew I'd feel fine once I'd flushed the toxins out. Took a while this time but it was a good session. Felt particularly strong on the straight 800m, although less so floundering around trying to do backstroke. Never see the point of doing it myself as I'd rather do doggy-paddle in a triathlon that backstroke. But, I'm not about to start arguing with our formidable coach, Nerys.

Thursday night was a fairly brutal turbo. I could have gone out on the roads but it was an efforts session and I just knew I wouldn't work as hard. The duration of the efforts are getting longer and longer now we're in the peak phase and 7 mins in Zone 4 heartrate is a killer. Was so hot in there that I decided to open the garage door fully. Mistake! It coincided exactly with door-to-door garage conversion salesman. Undeterred by my sweating, expiring self he started with his spiel about how I could turn the garage into a gym. I listened for all of 10 seconds before I had to thin him out and then spent the rest of the time stressing that he might come back and ram raid the garage to get the bike!

Today was supposed to be a run but I'd heard about the weekend weather we're due and I just could not face a 4-hour ride in a downpour. Finished a big piece of work this week so booked the afternoon and got out there. It was pretty blowy but the rain held off and had a decent ride. Did have to endure a brutal hill near Shere though. At one point, I thought I was going to start going backwards. But got up there in the end and what goes up, must come down so I managed to recover on the other side. Was pretty sore when I got back and had to throw myself straight into Dora's tea/bath/bed routine. Having learned from last weekend though, I did eat and have a recovery drink and it made all the difference.

So, onto tonight. Have been having lots of fun. My lovely Chris bought me a new Garmin (speed/distance monitor) yesterday and it is just mega. It maps the route, the elevation, speed, everything but probably the pièce de résistance is the fact that it uploads to blogger! Cue total training geek from this moment forward!!!!

Week 20 Long Ride by ironmummy at Garmin Connect - Details

Anyway, enough of the ramblings. The bed has been more than earned this afternoon. Still cacking it about Ironman. Only did half the ride length today and it was tough. God only knows what 4 July is really and truly going to be like....
